We thank the discussers for their interest in our work. All discussers were interested in the estimation of the pile axial capacity based on standard penetration test (SPT) results. Additional queries were raised concerning the dynamic load test (DLT) and static load test (SLT) data. We will first discuss the use of SPT-based methods to estimate the ultimate capacity of closed-ended pipe piles (CEPs) in gravelly soil. Then, additional information requested by the discussers regarding the DLT and the SLT will be provided. Two main approaches can be followed to estimate the ultimate capacity of a pile from SPT blow counts (Salgado 2008). In the first approach, SPT blow counts (N) are used to estimate the CPT cone resistance q_c [as was originally suggested by Robertson et al. (1983)], which is then input into CPT-based pile design methods to estimate the ultimate pile capacity. In the second approach, the N values are directly used to estimate the ultimate pile capacity using empirical correlations (e.g., AASHTO 2017; Aoki et al. 1978; Aoki and Velloso 1975; BIS 2010; BSI 2015; Meyerhof 1976, 1983).
