Proceedings from the United States Department of Agriculture and National Dairy Council Collaborative Research Planning Meeting Held August 24, 2016

On August 24, 2016, representatives from National Dairy Council~® (NDC)* and the United States Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) agencies: National Inst, of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), and Economic Research Service (ERS), convened for the USDA and NDC Collaborative Research Planning Meeting held at the NIFA offices at 800 9th St. SW in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the meeting was to identify nutrition, food safety, product research, and environmental sustainability research priorities. This was to ensure the development of nutritious and safe dairy foods and related ingredients are produced in an environmentally friendly manner that minimizes the use of resources. The overall goals of the meeting were to strengthen the existing collaboration between NDC, ARS, and NIFA, build new relationships with ERS, get introduced to the Foundation for Food and Agricultural Research (FFAR), and identify high-priority research areas of mutual interest in order to reduce research redundancy and best leverage limited resources. Additional dairy research stakeholders [United States Dairy Export Council (USDEC), International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), and National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF)] were invited to enrich the discussion between NDC and the USDA agencies.
