Lars Peter Hansen

Lars Peter Hansen is an economist at the University of Chicago. He was born in Urbana, Illinois in 1952. He earned his college degree in mathematics and political science from Utah State University in 1974 and his Ph.D degree in economics from the University of Minnesota in 1978. Christopher Sims was his primary advisor. Hansen served as a member of the faculty of Carnegie-Mellon University from 1978-1981 and at University of Chicago since 1981. He has been a visiting professor at Harvard, MIT and Stanford and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, National Academy of Sciences and the Econometric Society. He is currently President of the Econometric Society.
