SANITARY SITUATION OF WATER SUPPLY-SEWERAGE SYSTEMS AND QUALITY OF POTABLE WATER IN CHALKIDIKIPREFECTURE (CREECE)

The anthropogenic environment in which the residence is located and the total human activity can not sanitarily be studied independently from the supplies of potable water and the management of waste. More specifically the prefecture of Chalkidiki is distinguished from its particular environmental and developmental characteristics, a fact which should be taken into serious consideration at the sanitary approach of water resources. The aim of this paper was to examine the development of sectors of water supply and sewerage and the quality of potable water in the prefecture of Chalkidiki. Data was collected from Greek National Statistical Organisation, questionnaires that were answered by all the municipalities departments of prefecture and the results of chemical analyses of 59 samples of potable water that were received at points in the prefecture Over the first four-month period of 2005. While there has been appreciable progress in the quality of water supplies and sewerages in the last 15 years, the prefecture presents both quantitative and qualitative problems in potable water as well as a general crisis of strategy in the management of water resources.
