In the Global Ispat Koksna Industrija D.O.O Lukavac (GIKIL) system exits a plant for producing maleic acid anhydrides. Seeing the disadvantages of the process structure and the demands towards permitted concentrations of pollutant emissions in the environment, re-engineering of the process structure in the area of raw-material mixture preparation and the substitution of the cancerous material, benzene, with a more ecologically suitable material, n-butane, were conducted. From experimental data, gained by measuring the flow of pollutants before and after re-engineering the process structure, conclusions were made regarding the advantages of substituting the raw component benzene with n-butane.
