DEVELOPMENT OF WASTE MANAGEMENT STRATEGY IN ALBANIAN BREWERIES

Pollution prevention planning is a systematic, continuous, comprehensive examination of the operations at a facility with the goal of minimising all types of waste products. The plan seeks to integrate environmental benefits and economic impact without any influence in product quality and industrial safety. Our work was concentrated not only on pollution control, but also on pollution prevention strategy as the most effective approach to environmental protection, compared to other forms of waste management. Environmental protection measures were focused on emission control and reduction, however, the inefficient use of inputs (water, energy and raw materials) in a brewery can have environmental impacts. Therefore, the prevention or minimisation of potential adverse environmental impacts resulting from industrial operations should not only include the improved management and control of emissions and discharges, but also an optimisation of process inputs such as water, raw materials and energy. Pollution prevention and control plan is practised through 3 main key issues: (1) optimisation of water consume through conservation and recycling; (2) energy conservation; (3) disposal of solid wastes as by-products.
