A decision support system for water pollution assessment and control in aquaculture pond

In recent years, the aquaculture in China has been increased rapidly and a substantial increase being recorded in the aquaculture production. But water pollution has become the major factor damaging the sustainable development of aquaculture and the quality security of aquatic prod uct in China. In this paper, we present a general framework, using a scientific system of approach, for developing a decision support system for assessing and controlling water pollution. The system consists of 3 levels, the first is aimed for data collection, the second is responsible for models and the third level provides real-time decision support making, data distribution and visualisation. The core component of this decision support system includes water quality safety risk evaluation model and economic loss assessment model of water pollution. There are two main conclusions from this prototype application. First, water quality safety risk evaluation model is closed with water envi ronmental pollutants density and aquaculture time. Second, the economic loss assessment model of water pollution is closed with the four factors: (1) the size of pollution of water resources; (2) the size of water resource value; (3) the degree of exposure to pollution of water resources; (4) the cumulative effect of contaminated water.
