Future Directions for Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Industrial Engineering Technology Programs

摘要

Several common themes appear in each of the three sections in this paper. Each field is seen as a dynamic academic discipline, with strong ties to fast-changing technological and scientific developments being implemented in industries that demand high performance from their technical associates. Each field also recognizes that, to work effectively in an environment of rapid and continuous change, their graduates must perform in a highly professional manner with well-tuned skills. ET programs must provide graduates with solid foundations on which continuous learning can be built. Changes also are occurring rapidly in educational pedagogy, tools, and delivery systems. ET education strives to produce graduates who are ready to perform at a high level immediately after receiving their degrees and who can achieve strong professional growth throughout their careers. It is incumbent on the faculty and the leadership of these programs to seize the ideas presented here and move the educational product we deliver forward on a steep positive slope.
