John Nathaniel Couch (1896-1986), world-renowned mycologist, spent his entire professional career at the University of North Carolina. Accounts on his life and professional accomplishments, as well as works enumerating his writings, have been previously published. This paper acknowledges his contri- butions as editor of The Journal of the elisha Mitchell Scientific Society from 1946 to 1960 and discusses the subject areas of his research and resulting books.
