Rohm Enlarges Capacity To Answer Niche Market Demands

With a constant emphasis on providing custom and high-quality products, Rohm Co., Ltd. focuses especially on system LSIs that work mainly in digital home electric and electronic appliances and information and communications equipment. Rohm also makes semiconductor lasers for advanced, dense optical discs and optical communications products, as well as optical devices, such as organic light-emitting diode (OLED) devices, which are gaining attention for use as advanced displays. To build up these businesses, Rohm's FY2002 investment plans total ￥41 billion, the same level as in FY2001. To raise its capacity for processing wafers, Rohm has constructed a line for 0.25μm CMOS and 0.35μm mixed-signal VLSI 8cm wafers at Rohm Hamamatsu. This VLSI factory uses some of the most advanced semiconductor equipment available.
