At InterBEE, Japanese Makers Tout Gear for HD Broadcasting

Japan, like many countries in the world, is undergoing a transition from analog to digital broadcasting. This transition, and related complications and opportunities, were the focus of attention at the International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition (InterBEE 2001), which took place from November 14 to 16 in Japan's Chiba prefecture. The event drew 570 companies from 26 countries. In Japan, digital broadcasting began in earnest with the start of the digital broadcasting satellite services in December 2000. This development has helped stimulate demand in Japan for digital tuners. The industry calculates that about 1 million digital tuners were in use in Japan at the end of 2001.
