Toshiba Corp. introduced a new DVD recorder with a multi-drive system in the U.S. market. The D-R1 comes with a DVD multi-drive system that was developed by Toshiba. Following its introduction in the United States, the company will launch the D-R1 in U.K., adding one more model, and expand the sales to other countries such as France and Germany. The models are the first strategic products the company has introduced overseas, according to Masaaki Osumi, Senior Manager, DAV Overseas & Marketing Department, Digital AV Division, Digital Media Network Company of Toshiba. In the Japanese market, Toshiba's DVD recorders center around a 160GB HDD-installed model, the RD-X3, a 120GB HDD-installed model, the RD-SX4, and a 78mm thin model, the RD-XS30. The company has captured about 40 percent of the market for HDD-equipped models in Japan.
