Japanese manufacturers of vehicle-related electronics have been leaders in developing car audio products and car navigation systems. These manufacturers have developed not only equipment but also road map data, leading to the expansion of the car audio-visual navigation (AVN) market, especially in Japan. Now this AVN market is expanding significantly in Europe and the United States as well. In Japan, the market has evolved. Consumers are no longer satisfied with car navigation systems that only provide car navigation functions. Today, such systems also must incorporate functions for entertainment, such as functions normally associated with audio-video (A/V) products, including those for audio, TV and video and for playing DVDs. The market for car entertainment products has shifted in recent years from radio receivers to TVs. An increasing number of users want to watch TV in vehicles.
