Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd, known for its Panasonic brand, this spring plans to launch a series of new compact digital camcorders that are even smaller and lighter than their predecessors. Matsushita in 2003 introduced a compact digital camcorder, the NV-GS50, which allowed even small women to carry it and shoot images easily. What's more, the NV-GS70 comes with a high-quality 3-CCD system but still retains a compact size. These models were smash hits in various parts of the world. In Japan, where digital camcorders account for more than 95 percent of the total camcorder market, the NV-GS50 was the top seller for eight straight months. The response allowed Matsushita to make huge strides in the digital movie market.
