Demand for Industrial Imaging Systems To Expand in FY2004

Industrial imaging systems include surveillance systems, factory automation (FA) and measuring systems and production systems. These systems consist of input cameras, an image processing and recording system, transmission system and display devices. With the rapid proliferation Internet-based networks, industrial imaging systems have been installed in greater numbers as open systems that incorporate both web and network technologies. According to the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), domestic demand in Japan in FY2002 picked up from FY2001 with the recovery of capital spending in the private sector. However, demand from governmental and municipal offices dropped in FY2002 due to cutbacks in public investments. Even though public investments were curbed in FY2003, security measures have been stepped up. Demand has increased steadily from the public and private sectors. External demand for industrial imaging systems in FY2002 expanded -significantly as an economic recovery got under way in North America. Industrial analysts say in-creased demand can be expected in FY2003 and thereafter. In FY2004 stable demand is forecast both in Japan and abroad. Growing demand is expected for surveillance camera systems that make up the nucleus of security networks and advances in digitization of systems and networking.
