The convergence of advanced electron-iss, LCD and plasma display panel (PDP) technologies and other emerging technologies forms the basis for three-dimensional (3-D) displays. The technology for 3-D display is gaining attention for its potential upcoming image-display systems. Among the technologies that have played roles in research on 3-D displays are those involving digital image processing, HDTV and computer graphics. Breakthroughs in the field of human binocular vision also have helped revive interest in 3-D imaging. Since 2002, many companies have developed and introduced 3-D displays. These companies include Sharp Corp., Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd., Sony Corp., Mitsubishi Electric Corp., Casio Computer Co., Ltd., Toshiba Corp., and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.
