Funai's Focus on Digital Video Enhances Global Marketability

Funai Electric Co., Ltd. strengthens its lineup of advanced digital audio-visual (A/V) products, including LCD TVs, DVD recorders, digital still cameras and PDP TVs. Funai has increased sales and profitability significantly by developing and designing products that make the most of its forte mechatronics technology, including CRT TVs, video cassette recorders (VCRs) and VCR-equipped TVs, producing in China where cost is low and marketing through tieups with leading distributors around the globe. Furthermore, in these four to five years, Funai began offering new lineups of digital products one after another. Through tieup with Lexmark, Funai entered the printer business and under cooperation with Mitsubishi Electric, the company began offering DVD players, PC-use DVD+RW drives and projectors. In FY2002 sales of digital products accounted for 42 percent of the company's total sales of ￥331.4 billion.
