After lagging behind other global regions in the shift to high-definition broadcasts, European markets are ready to close the gap. Plans for HD broadcasts are advancing in Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Scandinavia, and other countries. HD broadcasts could begin in these markets between the second half of FY2005 and June of 2006. In particular, the upcoming World Cup Soccer games in Germany are helping to drive a full-scale shift to HD formats in the region. Pioneer Europe N.V. is pacing these moves by focusing on its Pure Black plasma TV products, and on the fine picture quality these sets offer. The company intends to expand its market presence as a manufacturer of plasma TVs, and will work vigorously for market permeation of its products.
