Displays of Strength: Spreading Use Stokes Demand for OLEDs

Demand has been expanding for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) as electronic display devices in flat panels, replacing thin-film transistor (TFT) LCDs. With outstanding viewing angle and response speed, OLEDs are increasingly being used, particularly in mobile phones and audio products. The biggest challenge for OLEDs is extending further its service life. If this is remedied, OLEDs can be used for TVs as well. The global market for OLEDs is expected to expand from $700 million in 2005 to $2 billion to $5 billion by 2009.
