Automobiles today are an intricate conglomeration of mechanical engineering and product design, with smatterings of aerodynamics, physics and ergonomics thrown in for good measure. For the past decade or more, automobiles also have been sporting a judicious selection of electronics technologies, including sensors and controllers for fuel injection, braking, and air-bag release. However, there is room for electronic devices beyond the engine compartment. In the front seat of many cars today, there are Global Positioning System (GPS) units, map- and voice-based car navigation systems, heads-up displays, and radio-based services that alert drivers to weather and road conditions.
