Japan's Slim TVs Post Strong Shipment Gains

Japanese shipments of flat-panel color TVs are maintaining a steep, steady upward pace. The Japan Electronic and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) reports that in October, shipment volumes for LCD TVs larger than 10 inches surged 55.4 percent on a year-to-year basis to 380,000 units. Models with 16:9 aspect ratios accounted for the majority of the LCD TV category, reaching volumes of 265,000 units. This figure is 273 percent greater than the corresponding shipment volume in October 2004. Shipments of LCD TVs larger than 30 inches skyrocketed 314.4 percent on a year-to-year basis, reaching 164,000 units.
