According to the long-term total energy forecasts by the German Advisory Council on Global Change, renewable energies, such as sunlight, wind power, biomass and geothermal heat will account for about 50 percent of total energy in 2050 and the percentage will expand to about 90 percent by 2100. Among these energies, sunlight is forecast to account for 25 percent in 2050 and 70 percent in 2100 (Fig. 1).
