摘要

Few people living today would suggest that computers have not profoundly changed the world in which we live. In a world of video games, network centric warfare, Facebook, e-books, and digital radiography, the overarching questions have become less about the pervasiveness of computers in our daily lives than about the ways in which they have changed-and will continue to change-our culture, our society, and our selves. Our understanding these changes hinges upon our ability to dispassionately identify specific social changes accompanying the emergence of digital culture, as well as upon the social theoretical frameworks we use to analyze them. Luke Tredinnick's Digital Information Culture is a valuable resource for identifying issues and for theory building. Readers may disagree with some of Tredinnick's emphases and conclusions. More important, however, they will find this erudite and theoretically nuanced work engaging and powerfully thought provoking.
