New Passive IR Missile Warner Unveiled

Under a program termed by its contractor as the only government-funded passive missile-warning development underway in Europe, BGT Bodenseewerk GmbH (Uberlingen, Germany) used the recent Paris Air Show to announce the effort. Begun in 1997 (under a 50/50 funding agreement with the German Ministry of Defense), the Passive Infrared Missile Approach Warning Systems (PIMAWS) underwent the first in a series of flight trials this past summer. Development is expected to continue until 2003.
