At the NGJ Industry Day held September 30 at NAS Patuxent River, MD, Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) Sensors Directorate AEA program manager Jerry Bullmaster discussed his organization's plan for developing and maturing technologies in support of the Air Force's nascent B-52 Core Component Jammer (CCJ) program, as well as the Navy's NGJ efforts. The B-52 CCJ platform would use two large wingtip pods to jam enemy air defense radars from long stand-off ranges. The objective technologies are high-power, multi-beam, phased-array transmitters in Bands 1 and 2 (low-band array) and Band 3 (mid-band array), as well as wideband exciters/techniques generators covering all three bands. The goal is to achieve Technology Readiness Levels of 6 or higher. The technology challenges include amplifier/ array performance across each band, array/exciter/aircraft integration and thermal management.
