摘要

As a graduate student, I became interested in rhetoric of science as an area of scholarly inquiry. Having recently completed a degree in history, it seemed only logical that rhetoric of science would spark my curiosity, given its emphasis upon scientific texts and the historical moments in which those texts emerge. My graduate program had also appointed me as a teaching assistant responsible for two first-year writing sections, and much of my graduate study also focused on composition and rhetoric pedagogy. However, my interest in rhetoric of science and my job teaching first-year writing existed for me as two ships passing in the night; I never considered a relationship between the two, other than the two both involved "rhetoric" and I was studying both under the same administrative or programmatic umbrella.
