摘要

This issue features four articles developed from the best papers presented at the ALISE 2011 Conference, as judged by the Editorial Board and a Blue Ribbon Panel. Each article provides a different perspective on the conference's theme: competitiveness and innovation. The first two articles make important contributions to preparing professionals to meet the needs of diverse library communities. In Are We There Yet? Results of a Gap Analysis to Measure LIS Students' Prior Knowledge and Actual Learning of Cultural Competence Concepts, Kafi Kumasi and Renee Franklin Hill initiate a research agenda employing gap analysis through examination of LIS student responses to the education section of a pilot questionnaire. Their preliminary results indicate that cultural competence learning objectives need to be better infused into the LIS curriculum through development of a set of standards that can be used to measure and to improve learning outcomes.
