As I write, we are commemorating AllenrnKent’s long and productive life (1921-rn2014), after his recent death (Williams,rn2014). He was a pioneer in many aspectsrnof library and information science (LIS),rnand yet, as I read his 1977 article, there isrnnot much in it that has become ancient, irrelevantrnhistory. The questions he discussesrnare still alive in our discipline in 2014,rnwhether we call it LIS, information science,rninformation studies, or an “iSchoolrneducation.”
