GROUND WATER QUALITY OF PALLADAM TALUK, COIMBATORE DISTRICT, TAIMIL NADU

Water samples from bore wells of Palladam taluk,Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu were analysed to find out the suitability of ground water for drinking and irrigation purposes. The water quality parameters (pH, EC, IDS, Ca~(2+), Mg~(2+) Cl~-, SO_4~-, NO_3. Al, Na & K) were carried out. The results reveal that the range of variations were :pH 7.3-8.4. total dissolved salts 163- 1758 mg/l. Calcium 16-164 mg/l. Magnesium 6-109.35 mg/1. Chloride 11-470 mg/l. Nitrate 2-98 mg/l. Sulphate 7-288 mg/l. Bicarbonates 113.33-408.7mg/l and Carbonates 0-30 mg/l. The finding shows that the contents in majority of sampling locations were below the permissible units and suitable for drinking purpose. The water type of the study area is of bi-carbonates and chlorides of magnesium and sodium.
