FIELD STUDY OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE (MSW) DUMPED ON ROAD SIDES OF TUT1CORIN CITY

摘要

The main objective of this study is to effectively safeguard the public health, safety, welfare and awareness. Open dumping of municipal solid waste (MSW) is observed commonly near road side, open plots, river side, drains and public places; however, it is not prohibited under law. Plastic as a major part of MSW, winds carry plastic bags to distant area sometimes found entangled on the trees and shrubs create nuisance. During rainy season, the blockage of drains and overflowing of water was observed in some areas of the Tuticorin city. Plastic bags now constitute the biggest challenge to solid waste management in Tuticorin. Plastic bag waste has attracted great political and public attention, especially because the waste has myriad unique environmental problems.
