Global climate change and coastal tourism: recognizing problems, managing solutions and future expectations

We are now witnessing regular dramatic weather events that are impeding travel (e.g. bombo-genesis on the U.S. east coast 2018), and leaving visible impacts on destinations (e.g. melting Denali). The juxtaposition between climate change and tourism is neither new nor novel. Yet, for a tourism industry dependent on sun, sand and sea, the effects of climate change are now rapidly outpacing the responses. In this new edited volume, editors Jones and Phillips respond to such pending issues, many of which were previously brought forth in their previous edited volume (Disappearing destinations, 2009). Through a new text, they advance the climate change and tourism literature beyond what would be achievable in a second edition. The book presents itself in two parts. The first part provides theoretical frameworks to better contextualize the case studies presented in Part Two. The editors have accomplished this through an interdisciplinary investigation of climate change and tourism drawing upon experts from multiple fields to achieve a cohesive and comprehensive expertise.
