Anatomy of The Anatomy of Racial Inequality

Loury's dissection of the anatomy of racial inequality carries both positive and normative implications for the direction that both researchers and policy makers interested in racial inequality should pursue. To reiterate a point made in the introduction to this review, underlying Loury's analysis is the conviction that the current debate surrounding racial inequality has grown stale and requires a change of focus. This position is quite clearly stated in some of Loury's earlier writings expressing concern about the selective focus on explicit discrimination as the sole morally defensible target of public intervention.
