Ten papers, originally presented at the Ecople Conference 2006, review recent developments in economic theory and empirical research regarding economic systems as complex phenomena whose aggregate dynamics cannot be inferred from their microeconomic building blocks. Papers discuss evolution of trust in economic systems; John Maynard Keynes, Friedrich Hayek, and complexity; a look at the relationship between industrial dynamics and aggregate fluctuations; a quantum-like viewpoint on the complexity and randomness of the financial market; classical and quantum-like randomness and the financial market; examination of the cost-of-carry formula for futures contracts on the Warsaw Stock Exchange's WIG20-wavelet and nonlinear cointegration analysis; a complex approach to estimate the shadow economy-the structural equation modeling; whether house prices will rise in 2007-a comparative assessment of house prices in London and Dublin; risk measurement and fair valuation assessment in the life insurance field; and analysis of qualitative and quantitative rankings in multicriteria decision making.
