摘要

The West has dominated scientific knowledge since the onset of the industrial revolution. Physical retreat after decolonization did not lessen its dominance. Decolonization led to three developments. First, self-sufficiency drives promoted reverse engineering and a few developing countries moved up the ladder. But, in most cases, unrealistic initiatives only accentuated dependence on the rapidly innovating West. Second, nationalist rhetoric seeped into humanities and social sciences.
