Franz Walter has written a short and pleasingly concise book on the German Green and Free Liberal (FDP) Parties in which he analyses the development of the two small 'parties of the centre' and discusses what role they may play in the German party system of the future. Walter sets his argument against the background of the persistent crisis of Germany's two large Volksparteien [people's parties], the centre-right CDU/ CSU [Christian-Democratic/Christian Socialist Union] parties and the centre-left SPD [Social Democratic Party]. The book is published in the publisher's XTEXTE series, which is dedicated to analysing contemporary political phenomena also for non-academic audiences.
