Inside Immigration Law: Migration Management and Policy in Germany

This well structured, concise book-the author's Cambridge Ph.D. thesis in Sociology-combines comparatively rare qualities: precise knowledge of Immigration Law with important insights into its application at the lowest level in Germany: the Auslaenderbehoerden (Immigration Offices). It thus makes important contributions to Immigration Policies on the one hand and Immigration Law on the other. The author can show that in Germany's federal system there is a considerable gap between these diverse 'top' policy-makers/law defining actors and what actually happens on the ground.
