The Scottish Question

Published just prior to the historic 2014 Scottish Independence referendum, The Scottish Question considers the nature of Scotland's distinctiveness, how it has changed over the years and the forces that have prompted these changes. In this monograph, James Mitchell, Chair in politics at Strathclyde University, takes a largely thematic approach, within a loose chronological framework, referring to academic and non-academic works throughout the text. Those that he feels 'deserve special attention' (287) include works by Welsh historian Gwyn Williams, democrat theorist Robert Dahl and German sociologist Max Weber among others.
