There is a lack of data related to the relative vibration serviceability performances of steel and RC stair systems. In order to investigate the serviceability performances of the steel and RC stairs, six mock-ups were constructed and tested. The results of pedestrian induced loading tests for the evaluation of vibration serviceability are compared. The results indicate that the vibration serviceability of both laminated tread board type steel stair, and steel fiber reinforced concrete tread board type steel stair meets both AISC criteria and Bishop's criteria. The tests also confirm that cast-in-place concrete stairs exhibit better vibration serviceability than steel stairs in general.
