Evolution of compensating states is studied in relativistic microwave electron devices with distributed interaction when the amplitude of the input signal increases. Operation of the traveling-wave tube (TWT) in the mode of the Kompfner signal suppression is an example of such a state. In this case, an increase in the input power that changes the detuning between the wave and the beam is accompanied by the appearance of a signal at the TWT output. In terms of normal waves, this case corresponds, for small signals, to the coherent composition of three waves when the amplitude of the microwave field vanishes at the TWT output and to the misphasing of these waves when the amplitude increases, which produces an output signal.
