Laurie Ouellette and James Hay's Better Living Through Reality TV is a long-awaited, highly anticipated scholarly work on reality TV. Both authors have engaged in the scholarship on reality TV for a long period of time and have contributed greatly in establishing reality TV as a prominent research area in media and cultural studies. Ouellette and Hay have been particularly interested in presenting reality TV as a cultural technology of everyday citizenship and how it is used to advance a certain type of technology ("technology of the self) that rationalizes "neoliberal" government and contemporary democracy.
