This book is a welcome contribution to the discussion on Integrated Product Policy (IPP) and to its understanding. It is the first volume dealing with the topic, despite IPP being on the EU-level agenda for almost a decade, and is coming out just in time to feed into the preparations for the upcoming 2007 Commission Report on the progress of IPP. The key issue of IPP is environmental policy integration, both in terms of strategies and instruments, with a clear penchant for the use of non-regulatory instruments. It fits within the larger framework of sustainable production and consumption, an area whose increase in salience has been accompanied by a move from "government" towards "governance" in environmental policy-making. IPP stands for a new form of environmental policy, characterized by strong stakeholder involvement and by a variety of policy formulation and implementation dynamics.
