Guoguang Wu's book examining China's Party Congress is an excellent analysis of this institution. Wu has contextualized the important role of the Party Congress in Chinese politics, which is important especially in light of the recent renewed interest in a more informed and sophisticated understanding of institutions and their functioning in authoritarian regimes like the Peoples' Republic of China.
