Africa Welcomes the World in 2005 As It Hosts the 18th World Petroleum Congress

The economies of the African oil and gas producing countries are developing rapidly and are supported especially by growing oil and gas revenues. Africa's oil and gas industry is in the early stages of development with large prospective areas still unexplored and infrastructure needed for substantial development. Africa is thus expected to continue to contribute extensive supplies of oil and gas to the world's economies for many years, both from onshore and offshore sources. Efforts are being made to both extend and improve the efficiency of Africa's infrastructure. The development of the extensive resources and related infrastructure will require substantial investment and offer many attractive business opportunities. Canadian companies are already participating in many of these opportunities. The 18th WPC will be effective in acquainting the world energy industry with the nature and extent of the opportunities in Africa and will contribute to efficient development.
