I should like to comment on the concept design for a "minimum colony ship" proposed by Marc Millis in his thought-provoking discussion of energy costs and energy availability for interstellar missions [1]. Millis states that the simplest scenario for a manned interstellar voyage entails "launching of a colony ship to ensure humanity's survival from threats to Earth's habitability". Since the ship is launched into interstellar space, the author presumably has in mind a situation which also threatens the habitability of Mars, as well as that of space colonies in the Asteroid Belt and other locations in the Solar System.
