Reference Equivalent Threshold Sound Pressure Levels for Nonaudiometric Headphones

For a given type of headphones the sound pressure levels of pure tones at which an adequate number of young listeners without hearing loss just perceived the tones are called Reference Equivalent Threshold Sound Pressure Levels (RETSPLs). RETSPLs for the Sennheiser HD 650 circumaural headphones were measured in this paper for 25 young listeners whose age was in the range of 19 to 28 years. The data were measured at frequencies between 125 Hz and 16 kHz. Since RETSPLs for this type of headphones are not currently available this paper may be useful for researchers who employ this type of headphones in experiments. The paper also compares RETSPLs for various types of supra-aural and circumaural headphones, which are available in standards.
