An ancient city rich in arts and culture, Kyoto constitutes an important region industrially as well. The city and its surroundings are home to numerous companies that play leading roles in the electronics field, and to some very prestigious universities and research laboratories. All of these elements create a synergy that spurs the evolution of electronics technologies and systems. After World War II, Kyoto saw a host of entrepreneurs establishing many small and medium-size electronics companies. Relying on technologies that they developed in-house, these companies succeeded in becoming leading industry players worldwide, as well as in Japan.
