; Latin America has a rich tradition of dramatic and unique political events held in public spaces. While these spaces may be unique in their metropolitan area - the central plaza of the core historic city or an open space adjacent to an important art gallery - they are ordinary in the sense that such spaces appear in many cities. Ordinary Places, Extraordinary Events focuses on unusual and symbolic events in such places with case studies from diverse major cities ranging from Mexico City and Havana to Lima and Bogota.
