PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently allocate the space for commodity data within catalogs when preparing the commodity catalogs by a desk top publishing. SOLUTION: This insert space allocation system operates the contents of a data base in which the information on the insert space and insert order within the catalogs for a plurality of commodity subsets is stored in correspondence to the page numbers of the catalogs. The system displays an allocation display section 51 for displaying the allocation of the insert spaces of the commodity subsets in the specific catalog pages and a detail display section 51a for displaying the values of the insert spaces of the respective commodity subsets on these pages and the insert order in the entire part of the commodity subsets on a display screen. If the changing of the values of the insert spaces and the insert order and paging processing are carried out, display switching means switches the allocation display in the allocation display section 51 to the contents after the change. The data after the change is updated and registered into the data base by registering means.
