The Chinese market for all sorts of architectural commentary and discussions has grown considerably in recent years. The number of Chinese architectural journals has increased by several times, and A + U, Domus, Detail, El Croquis are just some of foreign journals with Chinese editions ribw. Meanwhile, some Western journals have also published special issues on Chinese topics, among them Area, AV Monografias, and Volume. Taken together, there is a substantial amount of writings aimed at readers in various contexts.1 The field of critics involved in these publications include Chinese architects, students, and teachers as well as their counterparts based in Western countries. It would be fair to say that there is no common understanding of the purposes of architectural criticism among these groups, but they are united in confronting the challenges of cultural mediation.
