A Methodology for Designing Data Warehouses from Functional Semantics

摘要

Distributed systems, such as multi-database OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) and OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) applications require capturing the functional semantics of multiple data sources. While a lot of research and development has been done in creating models for data and process modeling (such as ER modeling in database conceptual schema design, and more recently UML), very few have focused on linking the functional semantics of a system with the system specifications. In this paper we establish the need for a methodology for developing systems specification for a data warehouse from functional semantics and develop a system architecture.
